LYT Yoga for WAMIFabFive @ Milano, Italy (Autumn, 2021)

MA recently completed the LYT Yoga Method™ Teacher Training course (Level 1) in October, 2021 with its founder Lara Heimann. This would not have been possible without the full scholarship that LYT Yoga awards to BIPOC yogis or aspiring yogis worldwide. MA set up a project with the Afro Fashion Week Milano and the “We are Made in Italy Fab Five Bridge Builders” (founded by Michelle Ngonmo, Edward Buchanan and Stella Jean) and invited a group of Italian based designers of colour to share her practice as part of her commitment to providing yoga classes for the BIPOC Community in Milan and beyond.

MA as Visiting Professor @ Lille University, France (Spring Semester, 2022)

The appointment of MA as Visiting Professor at the Law Faculty of the Catholic University of Lille in France has been renewed for 2022 to teach a course on “The Art of Advocacy in European Union and International Law” using her Creative Thinking for Lawyers (CTL) movement based method which she created in 2011. The method includes formal instruction (lecture; case method analysis of legal texts; drafting and negotiation exercises) and ‘creative’ instruction (simulation; role play; composition exercises; vocal training, postural analysis; presentation skills including use of audio/visual technology). The aim is to develop a core set of transferable skills: (i) problem-solving; (ii) decision-making; (iii) teamwork; (iv) reflection and (v) participation. MA is currently on study leave in order to complete the @lytyogamethod teacher training course created by @lara.heimann, some of the key concepts of which she is looking forward to introducing to her students in Lille.

LYTYOGAMETHOD YTT @ World Wide (July, 2021)

Press Release by MA: “I am a Mixed media Artist, a Lawyer, and a GYROTONIC® instructor. I continue to engage with movement research for my overall wellbeing as well as mainstreaming it into my arts practice. Yoga has enabled me to integrate movement as a way of life instead of compartmentalising it as a ”keep fit’ strategy. This past year, I have been practising LYT Yoga  via its on-line platform which turned out to be a lifeline during the various stages of lockdown here in Italy. I am so grateful for the privilege to be able to start the Level 1 Teacher training course later this month with @lara.heimann. This would not have been possible without the full scholarship that #lytyoga awards to BIPOC yogis or aspiring yogis worldwide.”

DJ Resilienza Collettiva by MA @ Radio Cavolo / Fiesole (IT) (March 2021)

Radio Cavolo, which is based at the European University Institute (EUI) in Fiesole, have invited MA to host a series of DJ Resilienza Collettiva sets every friday evening at 20:00 starting on Friday, March 5, 2021. DJ Resilienza Collettiva was created by MA and a group of neighbours in Milan during the beginning of the first national lockdown in 2020. The DJ sets for Radio Cavolo fuse a mixture of storytelling, advice for managing the impact of the pandemic on our day to day lives, and an excuse to, “Move your Groove”, as MA likes to say.  MA was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the EUI between 2000-04.

COME BACK BEAUTIFUL BY MA @ 33JAZZ RECORDS / THE ORCHARD (SEPTEMBER 1, 2020)

The single “Come Back Beautiful” by Miriam Aziz (“MA”) (33Jazz Records and The Orchard) is out today. Although the song was written and recorded in New York in 2010, it still resonates today as we strive to create, calibrate and co-ordinate the role that each of us have to play in designing the new normal as human beings and as artists. It is also driven by the sense of our collective resilience in rising to meet the challenges that we face as a consequence of the multi-faceted impact of the COVID-19 virus. The song is also about mortality and the courage needed to live and savour each and every moment as fully as possible, individually speaking and as members of the global community affected by this terrible virus.

“Come Back Beautiful” was written and composed by MA and recorded at Lofish Studios in New York and features Pablo Masis (trumpet); Paolo Dionisi Vici (saxophone) and David Sanella (violin). MA is responsible for the drum programming, drums, percussion, bass, guitar, piano and vocals. Cover photograph by Tei Blow.
