WORKSHOP PRESENTATION BY MA @ VU AMSTERDAM / NL (OCTOBER 19/20, 2022)

Miriam Aziz (“MA”) presented a paper at a Workshop on Institutional Architecture at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) on the invitation of Professors Renske Vos (VU Amsterdam) and Sofia Stolk (Asser Institute): “One of the most iconic and concrete encounters one can have with international law is to visit its institutional buildings. Whether by eye-catching design or as dilapidated office, buildings make law physical and visible. They embody international law’s norms, values, histories, and imaginaries.” This workshop was sponsored by VU Amsterdam; Roskilde Universitet; Asser Institute; Legal Sightseeing; the Royal Netherlands Society of International Law.

Installation by MA @ Casa Bolivar, Buenos Aires, Argentina (May, 2022)

‘The negatives are under my skin’ by Miriam Aziz (“MA”) (Casa Bolivar, Buenos Aires, Argentina (May 2022)) is a multi-media installation which addresses memory and the act of interpretation. It includes a short film shown on a made-to-measure projector screen, a series of ink and pencil drawings on carbon paper, tracing paper, writing paper and party streamers including fragments of Super8mm film which have been (dis) embodied into shapes that recall the artist’s fascination with the human body as an archive of all of our indelible experiences for which the negatives remain, refracting through the light years of our lives as time recalibrates different versions of interpretation. The title, “The negatives are under my skin” recall instructions included in a will and testament which may never find its last firmament, as we continue to recalibrate through all that we meet, piercing variable paths through time that we seek to (dis) own.
